A feasibility study for the development of the Nant des Varins alluvial fan in Praz-sur-Arly has been launched to reduce flood risks.

The Nant des Varins, located on the North slope of Mont de Vorès in Praz-sur-Arly, shows signs of significant flooding. The 2023 events caused a heavy transit of materials, blocked by debris at the gorge exit. The downstream part of the alluvial fan exhibits severe scouring, with undercut banks and numerous trees threatening to fall into the torrent's bed.
Several areas are situated on the alluvial fan, including housing developments, tourist residences, the ski resort's snow front, and alpine pastures. No recent protective measures have been implemented on this torrent to date.
In response to this situation, a feasibility study has been initiated. Its objective is to improve the quality of the environment while ensuring the protection of areas highly exposed to risks. This study is being conducted by Sage Environnement with financial support from the Syndicat mixte du bassin versant de l'Arly (SMBVA), which funds 50% of the project, and other partners contributing 20%.
