In 2025, the roads of Ain saw 51 fatalities and 633 injuries. This trend continues in 2026, with 41 people killed by September 30. In light of these tragedies, often caused by avoidable risky behaviors, the road safety department is launching an appeal for volunteers.
Becoming a Departmental Road Safety Intervener (IDSR) means becoming a volunteer and occasional collaborator of the State. IDSRs are trained to disseminate national road safety policy and work towards safer roads. The State-Departmental Road Safety unit also welcomes proposals to enrich its actions.
IDSR missions focus on prevention, including dialogue, educational workshops, and communication campaigns. The target audience is broad: schoolchildren and students, businesses, administrations, local authorities, seniors, and all road users. The administration provides a variety of educational materials, such as simulators, alcohol/drug simulation courses, a bicycle handling track, or escape games, as well as communication tools (posters, leaflets).
IDSRs often work as part of a network, sometimes accompanied by supervisors from the road safety unit. Travel and meal expenses are covered by the administration, and initial and thematic training sessions are regularly organized.
