Nearly 1.6 million people in France live with a neurodegenerative disease, such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, or Lewy body dementia. These conditions remain poorly understood, and common misconceptions significantly affect the daily lives of patients and their loved ones.
As part of a national campaign launched by the Ministry of Health, Families, Autonomy, and Disabled Persons, the Valgelon-La Rochette town hall is sharing useful information. While a cure is not yet available, open discussion and understanding are crucial for providing better support.
The announcement clarifies that Parkinson's is not solely characterized by tremors, multiple sclerosis does not always lead to wheelchair use, and Alzheimer's is not an inevitable consequence of aging. Two brochures are available for download: one addresses these common myths, and the other outlines the available support services for patients and their caregivers, ranging from home care to respite services.
