On the occasion of the International Year of Pastoralism, the Savoie Alpine Economy Society presents « À pas de troupeau » (At the pace of the flock), a podcast series meeting those who sustain pastoralism in the alpine pastures of Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Across five territories, breeders, shepherds, and players in the pastoral world share their experiences, skills, and daily lives. This series aims to foster a better understanding of the many facets of pastoralism, its evolution, and the challenges it faces.
Three initial episodes are already available. The first, « New Challenges of Pastoralism », addresses water shortages, climate change, predation, and new land uses, featuring testimonials from breeders and shepherds. The second, « Transmission and Settling in Alpine Pastures », focuses on the future of the profession and the integration of new generations of breeders. Finally, the third, « Product Transformation », highlights cheese-making and the valorization of pastoral products, with stops in Beaufortain, on the Mirantin alpine pasture, the Ritord alpine pasture, in Blaitières (above Chamonix), in Morzine, and at the Sulens training alpine pasture.
“"Take about twenty minutes to discover the stories, professions, and know-how of those who keep our alpine pastures alive!"
New episodes will be added to this series in the coming weeks, released every two weeks. The « À pas de troupeau » series is also available on listening platforms.
