Due to the influx of cremation requests following the fire at the Bron crematorium and the reduced operation of Lyon-Guillotière, the Gleizé crematorium, the sole facility in the Rhône department, has had its daily capacity increased.

The Communauté d'Agglomération Villefranche Beaujolais Saône, which manages the funeral service through its delegate OGF, has authorized an increase in daily cremations from six to seven, Monday to Friday. This measure aims to address the rising demand being redirected to the Gleizé funeral center.
Currently, the planning lead time for a cremation reaches 14 days. The Agglomeration Community acknowledges the hardship this waiting period represents for families and assures that it is working closely with its delegate to best meet the demand.
French law, following decree n° 2024-790 of July 10, 2024, mandates that a cremation or burial must take place no later than 14 calendar days after death, including Sundays and public holidays, starting from the day after the death. If this deadline cannot be met, the family's funeral operator must request an exemption from the prefecture. In specific local circumstances, the prefect may extend this period to 21 days, for a renewable duration of one month.
