Despite recent rainfall, the hydrological situation in the Loire remains tense. A new prefectural decree, published on October 28, 2026, modifies restriction levels in several areas of the department. The zones of Aix, Rhins-Sornin, Forez-Ance-Mare-Bonson, Forez-Lignon-Vizézy, and Sud Pilat are now at the Enhanced Alert level, while the Upper Loire and Lower Loire zones are at the Alert level. These measures are in effect until November 30, 2026.
The recent rains have provided temporary relief, but groundwater levels remain concerning for the season. Rebuilding reserves sustainably requires several significant rainfall events. The prefecture emphasizes that every action counts and urges continued efforts to limit water consumption by prioritizing essential uses, avoiding unnecessary use, repairing leaks, and adopting water-saving practices daily.
Previous decrees, dating from August 28, 2026, August 5, 2026, July 21, 2026, July 13, 2026, July 2, 2026, and June 24, 2026, had already implemented gradual restrictions, ranging from enhanced alert to crisis situations for areas like Forez: Lignon, Vizézy or the Canal du Forez. These measures included prohibitions on watering lawns and flowerbeds, washing vehicles, cleaning facades, and strict limitations for vegetable gardens and sports fields.
The prefecture reminds the public that water resources are under severe strain and that water conservation has become essential. It calls on every resident to immediately and significantly reduce their water consumption.
