Haute-Savoie is facing a critical drought situation. Significant rainfall deficit and high temperatures have led to several sectors, particularly the lower Arve, being placed in a crisis situation (level 4/4), imposing water usage restrictions until October 31, 2026.

September, continuing the summer trend, is marked by a significant rainfall deficit: precipitation is almost absent, temperatures exceed seasonal norms, and soil moisture remains very low. This situation is expected to persist in the coming weeks without significant improvement.
Flow rates in the lower Arve are registering very low levels, while other areas of the department show no improvement. Faced with this degradation, the lower Arve sector is placed in a crisis situation (level 4/4) starting Thursday, October 1st, as are the Dranses, Chéran, and Usses sectors, where restriction measures are extended until October 31, 2026.
In these territories, only priority water uses contributing to drinking water supply for populations, the survival of aquatic species, animal watering, civil security, public health, and certain agricultural uses will be authorized.
Similarly, the restriction measures in force on the 5 other basins are extended until October 31, 2026: Fier, middle Arve and South-West Lémanique: reinforced alert (level 3/4), Genevois and upper Arve: alert (level 2/4).
We remind you that it is not permitted to fill, empty, or top up private swimming pools, clean vehicles at home, water gardens between 9 am and 8 pm, water lawns and flowerbeds between 8 am and 8 pm, water stadiums and golf courses between 8 am and 8 pm, or clean the facade or roof of one's house. A 25% reduction in water volumes is required for industrial and commercial activities, and sprinkler irrigation of crops is prohibited between 11 am and 6 pm. Vigilance and water conservation are urged.
