Between 2008 and 2012, the classification of the "Gastronomic Meal of the French" as a Unesco World Heritage site sparked numerous debates. The exhibition questions the codification of the meal and how the practices of the people of Bresse align with this heritage element.
Bresse, recognized as a "well-eating" terroir, is famous for its exceptional products such as "Bresse chicken", and "Bresse Butters and Creams". The region is also the birthplace of notable culinary figures, including the Mères lyonnaises from the Ain department (Mère Blanc, Mère Brasier) and renowned chefs like Georges Blanc and Paul Bocuse.
Menus from the collection of the Departmental Museum of Ain, along with photographs of the traditional conscript meal, will provide insights into this issue.
This exhibition is organized by the Direction des Musées de l'Ain.
