Breast cancer, the leading cause of cancer death in women, can be cured in over 90% of cases if detected early. To emphasize the importance of regular screening, the municipality of Saint-Alban-Leysse is mobilizing throughout October.
The bakery-pastry shop « Thom & Flo » is offering pink breads and pastries, made with 100% natural flour from cranberries, raspberries, or beetroot powder. For every 180g of bread sold, 30 cents will be donated. The municipality is also purchasing one bread per elected official and employee.
Local businesses are decorated with pink balloons, paper balls, and lanterns. Information materials on breast cancer are being distributed. A prevention event by the Comité Féminin pour le Dépistage du Cancer du Sein des Savoie is scheduled for the market on Wednesday, October 21st.
Large pink bows, created by an elected official and painted by local graffiti artist Willis, adorn the streets. The town hall is decorated with a garland of pink umbrellas. On October 1st, elected officials and municipal staff will wear pink tops during the October municipal council meeting.
