Over 518 kilograms of waste were collected by 314 children and their supervisors during the 2026 World Cleanup Day in Haute Tarentaise. Five schools from the region participated in the initiative.

Driven by collective and inclusive human values, the World Cleanup Day movement aims to foster common awareness in a friendly atmosphere. This year again, schoolchildren from Haute Tarentaise participated in this global event.
Five schools in the Haute Tarentaise territory responded to the call from the waste reduction and sorting service of the community of communes: the Centre school, Sainte Bernadette school in Bourg Saint Maurice, Sainte Foy Tarentaise school, Tignes school, and Val d’Isère school. In total, 314 children and their supervisors collected over 518 kg of waste in their municipalities.
Approximately 100 kg of bulky waste were collected directly by technical services as they were not movable by the children. It is important to note that this waste collection is not a competition based on weight collected, highlighting the polluting impact of lightweight waste such as cigarette butts, batteries, and small plastic packaging.
Globally, 190 countries and territories with 25 million participants mobilized in 2025. The participation of Haute Tarentaise schools is included in these impressive figures. Officially set for September 20th, World Cleanup Day now has official UN global recognition.
