On the occasion of World Pain Day, celebrated on October 19th, the Centre Hospitalier Métropole Savoie (CHMS) is launching an initiative to raise awareness about neuropathic pain and its various management options. An information stand will be available to the public on Thursday, October 15th, in the atrium of the Chambéry hospital.
Neuropathic pain, which can manifest as burning sensations, electric shocks, tingling, or hypersensitivity, has significant consequences on daily life. Linked to a lesion or disease of the nervous system, it affects approximately 7% of the population. An adapted evaluation is essential to propose personalized care.
The stand, run by the teams from the Centre d’étude et de traitement de la douleur (CETD), will be open from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. The program includes an interactive game to discover pain aspects, a presentation on transcutaneous electrical neurostimulation (TENS), and discussions with healthcare professionals.
The CHMS's Committee for Pain Management (CLUD) works to improve practices and disseminate knowledge on available therapies. For cases requiring specialized expertise, patients can be referred to the CETD in Chambéry or the Pain department at the Reine Hortense site in Aix-les-Bains. Comprehensive management can combine drug-based and non-drug-based approaches.
