The Vetrotex district, located at the northern entrance of Chambéry in the Grand Verger sector, is taking shape on the site of the former textile glass factory closed in 2005. This urban project, launched in 2020, aims to create a sustainable and pleasant neighborhood while limiting urban sprawl and valuing the site's industrial heritage.
Ultimately, the district will accommodate nearly 800 housing units, a daycare center, a senior residence, shops, and a medical center. Public spaces, including Blainville Park, Pierre-de-Coubertin Square, pedestrian and cycle paths, and over 430 trees, play a significant role in the project.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Silicium real estate program marked a new step in the transformation of this former industrial wasteland of nearly 7 hectares. Led by La Savoisienne and Cristal Habitat, this program plans the construction of 111 housing units (from T1 to T5) spread across two buildings.
The objective is to provide broader access to affordable housing in Chambéry, with a diverse offering: 70 units for social ownership, 11 social rental units, and 30 intermediate rental units. The district also integrates challenges related to climate change, including greening spaces, soil de-sealing, and combating heat islands.
The City of Chambéry invites residents to an urban walk on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, to discover the initial developments. Accompanied by elected officials and the design architect, participants can discuss the district's evolution and share their feedback.
The meeting point is Place Pierre-de-Coubertin, in Chambéry. Registration is via an online form.
