From November 1st to December 31st, 2026, the Artothèque of Chambéry is celebrating its 40th anniversary by fostering connections with the local area, its residents, and cultural, social, and educational structures. Its artworks will move from their usual spaces to be displayed in various locations across the municipality, from the Musée des Beaux-Arts to the Café Biollay, as well as neighborhood town halls and cultural facilities. This off-site trail invites the public to discover art throughout the city and see everyday places with fresh eyes.
To commemorate this anniversary, a special evening event will be held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts on Saturday, November 21st. The program includes a round table discussion on the 40 years of the Artothèque in Chambéry, a printmaking workshop, an interactive game, flash tours, and a concert. This evening will be an opportunity to explore the collection, discuss art, and celebrate four decades of creation and encounters.
Established in 1986, the Artothèque of Chambéry allows individuals to borrow original artworks for display in their homes, businesses, associations, or schools. Its collection comprises nearly 600 works, primarily prints and photographs, as well as drawings. Approximately 300 artists are represented, with creations spanning international, national, regional, and local origins, dating from the 1950s to the present day.
Much like a library lends books, the Artothèque makes artworks accessible and encourages engagement with contemporary creation. It enables everyone to discover artists, live with a piece of art, and share that experience with others. For 40 years, it has thus contributed to circulating art beyond exhibition spaces and bringing artistic creation closer to the residents.
