The Le Silicium program, located in the heart of the former Vetrotex industrial site in Chambéry, has had its first stone laid, symbolizing significant progress in housing offerings for the conurbation. This ambitious project involves the construction of 111 homes, designed for price accessibility, social diversity, and ecological transition. Delivery of the apartments is expected in 2028.
Spread across two buildings, the residences will range from T1 to T5. Depending on the unit, each apartment will feature a balcony, loggia, terrace, or access to shared gardens. The program includes 70 homes for social ownership, 11 social rental units, and 30 intermediate rental units, catering to the diverse needs of future inhabitants.
Grand Chambéry actively supports this project through its stone aid scheme. The agglomeration contributes to the financing of 11 social rental units, providing a subsidy of €68,216 for 8 of them. It also supports social ownership to facilitate the purchase of affordable housing. These aids are part of a collective effort involving the City of Chambéry, La Savoisienne Habitat, Cristal Habitat, and Action Logement.
Beyond just creating housing, Le Silicium is part of a broader ambition to rebuild the city on itself. By redeveloping a former industrial site, the project limits the consumption of new natural spaces and promotes the integration of nature within the urban environment.
This project is integrated into the transformation of the Vetrotex eco-district, located north of Chambéry. Covering 7.3 hectares, this new district will eventually accommodate approximately 800 homes, shops, and services, while preserving part of the industrial heritage. Greenery, rainwater management, and connection to the urban heating network are key elements in making Vetrotex a district adapted to environmental challenges and new lifestyles.
