Initial tests are underway before an official launch scheduled by the end of the year. Nearly a year of work was required to construct, equip, and connect this new pumping station, located at the corner of rue Gabriel-Péri, to the existing network, including nearly a kilometer of new pipelines.
This new facility, the second in the area, aims to reduce risks in case of a breakdown of the existing station, as occurred in December 2021. It is equipped with four electromechanical pumps and is automated and remotely controlled.
The station serves a dual purpose: it can pump drinking water to the Minguettes reservoir with a flow rate of 500 cubic meters per hour, either in addition to or as a replacement for the first station. It will also provide the necessary flow rates for firefighting via public hydrants.
Furthermore, the station can directly supply the Vénissieux network when the reservoir is unavailable. This overpressure mode ensures sufficient flow to users' taps without relying on the water tower. This will be the case in spring 2027, when significant renovation work, planned for several months, will be carried out on the aging reservoir, which dates back to the 1960s.
