The Metropolis of Lyon has announced that the Olympic and Paralympic Village for the ice sports of the « Alpes 2030 » Olympic Games will be located in the Saulaie district, in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite and La Mulatière. This decision, made by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (COJOP), Solideo, and the Metropolis of Lyon, enhances the district's visibility and accelerates the urban redevelopment project managed by SEM SERL.
The site, covering 20 hectares, will temporarily accommodate nearly 1,500 athletes, their teams, and international media. The village's design, led by DEMATHIEU BARD IMMOBILIER and SOGEPROM with architects LECLERCQ ASSOCIÉS and TVK, aims for a lasting legacy. Buildings will be reversible, converted into housing after the Games, and existing wooded areas will be preserved. The historic SNCF hall will be renovated for use as a dining area during the Games before being integrated into the urban project.
The Olympic village's establishment, planned for lots 6A/6B and 7, will speed up the transformation of the 40-hectare site by nearly two years. Building permits will be filed by the end of 2026 for delivery in September 2029. The project also includes experiments in land management, reuse of demolition materials, and health-friendly urban planning, notably through an active design approach.
The new district will feature 128,000 m² of floor space, combining housing, offices, commercial activities, shops, and services. Definitive developments, such as the Parc des Tanneries and Place Valmy, will be inaugurated on October 21st. Several building permits are planned by the end of 2026 for a gymnasium, residential and commercial lots, an aquatic center, and a cooperative housing project.
