Individual wood heating, a major source of fine particle emissions in Lyon, is subject to reinforced regulatory measures. These changes are part of the Air Protection Plan (PPA) aimed at sustainable improvement of air quality.
Since April 1, 2026, the use of open fireplaces is prohibited throughout the PPA's territory. Furthermore, from April 1, 2028, wood heating appliances manufactured before 2002 will no longer be permitted for use.
To support residents through this transition, financial aid may be offered for replacing older, more polluting wood heating appliances. The Municipality encourages concerned residents to inquire about available aid and the application details of this new regulation.
On a daily basis, to limit particle emissions, it is also recommended to use dry firewood, favor top-down lighting, and regularly maintain and have your appliance swept.
