A graduate of ésadhar and a 2025 laureate of the Pépinière du Fort de Tourneville program, Victor Vimont uses tools like 3D printing and modified machines to transform fragments of reality into memory totems. His work, focused on memory, time, and refuge, creates spaces where past and present intersect.
Within the framework of FASSIL 2026's theme "(non)-conformeS", the exhibition "Memory of Landscapes" invites reflection on different temporalities. Vimont emphasizes the importance of remembering that other life rhythms have existed, contrasting with current norms.
Born from an interest in machine tools and contemplation, the project evolved towards a more manual practice. The artist now uses various discovered tools to archive landscapes, an endeavor enriched by FASSIL, which involves participants and archives a part of the Feyssine Natural Park.
The public can discover pieces created during workshops with participants, as well as original works by Victor Vimont. Among them are "La Pierre grise", a 3D digital twin of an ancient dolmen, a 1:1 scale 3D pen drawing of a centenary olive tree, and laser-engraved slates.
Vimont chooses his materials based on affect, focusing on often invisible everyday objects. Technique, particularly 3D printing and machine modification, serves as a means of emancipation and confidence-building for him.
The exhibition dialogues between intimate memory, human history, and geological time, highlighting how material culture and transmission shape our relationship with the world. The artist seeks to archive these immaterial traces to bring them closer to us.
Defining himself as "curious about reality, while keeping a distance," Vimont expresses a paradox between wonder and the fear of non-conformity in an accelerated world. The repurposing of objects and machines is seen as a form of non-conformity, a common ground for artists and engineers.
The experience offered aims to create a timeless atmosphere, inviting pause and slowness. It also seeks to share the Feyssine Natural Park, offering a window into its past, akin to Richard McGuire's comic "Here".
This exhibition opens new perspectives for Victor Vimont, particularly with the resources at INSA Lyon and the I-Factory, and collaborations with professors, strengthening the link between Art and Science.
The Arts, Sciences and Societies Festival (FASSIL) at INSA Lyon returns for its 3rd edition from November 17 to December 10, 2026, under the theme "(non)-conformeS". It questions our relationship with norms and differences, bringing together professional proposals, student creations, and scientific and cultural collaborations.
