Engaged since 2018 in the fight against Vespa velutina nigrithorax, the Asian hornet, the CCVG finances a nest detection and destruction program. Additionally, since 2025, it has supported the trapping of founding queens in spring, with the operational support of the association Les Amis des Abeilles de Chaponost.
This preventive action aims to limit nest development in summer and autumn. Over the past two years, 500 traps have been distributed free of charge. The 2027 campaign plans to provide 200 new traps, particularly targeting new volunteers and farmers.
The CCVG calls for collective mobilization to limit the proliferation of this invasive species across the five communes in its territory. Public information and recruitment meetings are scheduled:
The Asian hornet has a significant impact on agriculture, particularly on fruit crops and bee colonies, as well as on biodiversity, consuming approximately 11 kg of insects per nest per year. It also poses risks to human health due to potential stings.
