The Graduate + project, led by Lyon 1 University in partnership with Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne, the École normale supérieure de Lyon, and Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3, marks a new phase with the announcement of five selected projects. Funded by the National Research Agency (ANR) as part of France 2030, this program aims to structure and deploy a model that enhances international attractiveness and the research-education link.
Out of seven applications reviewed, three new Graduate Initiatives (GI) have been created to cover complementary fields: Graduate School Research & Advanced Public Health Education, focusing on prevention and global health; Rehabilitation Sciences, centered on disability and health technologies; and INSPIRE+, combining sports science and gender studies.
Two existing initiatives, initially linked to the ENS de Lyon, are expanding their scope by integrating other programs from Lyon 1. DynLifeSys will strengthen its focus on biology and biochemistry, while PACE will incorporate new programs in physics, material sciences, Earth and planetary sciences, as well as ocean and atmospheric sciences.
This expansion is part of a long-term institutional strategy. It aims to make educational pathways more coherent, consolidate their connection with research laboratories, and foster consistent trajectories from Master's to PhD. It also supports the implementation of shared standards for recruitment, internationalization, monitoring, and evaluation.
The Graduate + project is funded by the General Secretariat for Investment through the ANR for a period of seven years. It seeks to structure research-based education within initiatives of excellence.
