During the recent community council meeting, the Community of Communes of the Garon Valley (CCVG) presented road development projects in Chaponost and Montagny. These initiatives aim to enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians, calm traffic, and strengthen resilience to climate change.
In Chaponost, Avenue de Verdun and Route des Pins will undergo redevelopment, including a bidirectional cycle path, a sidewalk, and a planted strip. The goal is to create a calmer, greener route. The project management study, launched in June 2025, resulted in a diagnosis and sketch presented in September 2025. Following consultations with the Chaponost à Vélo association and a public meeting in June 2026, the project, with an estimated cost of €1,867,000 including tax, will be adapted based on user feedback.
In Montagny, the Montée de Sourzy will be transformed into a 300-meter greenway, part of a 720-meter development. This project aims to ensure quality cycling and pedestrian connections. The project management study began in July 2025, with an estimated cost of €850,000 including tax.
Both operations are subject to a subsidy request from the State under the Fonds Vert (Green Fund), totaling €692,953.93, covering 50% of eligible work costs. Pierre Fouilland, vice-president in charge of roads and soft mobility, welcomed these projects that fulfill long-standing priorities of the soft mobility master plan.
Furthermore, the CCVG has granted a loan guarantee of €125,967.75 for the construction of 3 social housing units in Brignais. In economic development, a partnership agreement was approved with SCIC Sapiens & Territoires, along with a €10,000 subsidy to foster local cooperation. Finally, the CCVG has mandated EPORA to acquire a building in Brignais as part of the redevelopment of the ZAE des Aigais industrial zone.
