Following the floods of October 2024, SMAGGA is launching a public consultation until November 30, 2026, to define flood prevention actions for the Garon basin for the 2028-2033 period.

The flood episodes that affected several municipalities in the Garon river basin, particularly in October 2024, highlight the importance of continuing prevention and population protection actions. Since 2020, SMAGGA (Syndicat de Mise en valeur, d’Aménagement et de Gestion du bassin versant du Garon) has been implementing a Flood Prevention Action Program (PAPI). As the current program ends in December 2027, the syndicate is preparing a new program for the 2028-2033 period.
This new phase aims to continue the efforts made in flood risk management, taking into account the territory's challenges and the expectations of its inhabitants. The prior consultation is an opportunity for the public to be informed and to contribute to the reflection on future flood prevention actions for the Garon and its tributaries. Residents can submit observations, criticisms, ideas, or proposals.
The consultation runs from October 15 to November 30, 2026, across the Garon river basin, which includes 24 municipalities. Two public meetings are organized to present the process and discuss flood prevention issues: on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at the Briscope exhibition hall in Brignais, and on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 6 PM to 8 PM, at the Brenot center in Grigny-sur-Rhône.
Several methods are available for participation: online via the dedicated platform (https://www.registredemat.fr/concertation-prealable-papi-garon), at the town hall by consulting the consultation file, by email at concertation-prealable-papi-garon@registredemat.fr, or by mail addressed to SMAGGA: 262, rue Barthélemy-Thimonnier, 69530 Brignais.
Following the consultation, SMAGGA will publish a report presenting the lessons learned from public participation and the measures it deems necessary to consider in preparing the future program. Everyone can contribute to the reflection to better prevent floods and prepare the future of the Garon river basin.
