The SMTC is enhancing its secure bike parking options with the expansion of the C.BOXvélo network in the Clermont metropolitan area, offering a practical and accessible solution 24/7.

Cycling is increasingly becoming a daily mode of transport for many residents in the Clermont metropolitan area. To support this trend and meet the need for secure parking, the SMTC is continuing to develop the C.BOXvélo locker network, accessible 24/7 across the entire metropolitan territory.
C.BOXvélo lockers allow users to park their personal bicycles in a closed and secure space for a few hours, a day, or several weeks. The service accommodates mechanical bikes, electric-assist bikes, bikes with child seats, and certain longtail bikes depending on equipment capacity. Each subscriber gets a reserved spot in their chosen locker and secures their bike with their own lock.
Access to the lockers is simple, via the C.BOXvélo app, an OURA card, or a dedicated card available at the C.vélo commercial agency located at the Clermont-Ferrand SNCF train station.
Strategically located near tram stations, bus lines, and park-and-ride facilities, C.BOXvélo lockers are designed to promote complementarity between cycling and public transport. They enable users to cycle part of their journey and then continue by tram, bus, or train, without worrying about bike parking.
This service complements the mobility offerings from C.vélo, alongside its bike-sharing and long-term rental options, to cater to various needs and encourage the use of active mobility.
To meet different requirements, several subscription plans are available: a 24-hour ticket, and 1-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscriptions. These can be purchased directly through the C.BOXvélo app, the C.vélo website, or at the commercial agency.
The C.BOXvélo network currently comprises 17 facilities across 9 municipalities in Clermont Auvergne Métropole. Eight lockers are located in Clermont-Ferrand, including a large 150-space locker at the SNCF station. The network also serves Cournon-d’Auvergne, Aubière, Le Cendre, Romagnat, Durtol, Beaumont, Gerzat, and Saint-Genès-Champanelle. An 18th locker will soon open at Les Salins in Clermont-Ferrand.
This development is part of the sustainable mobility policy promoted by the SMTC and Clermont Auvergne Métropole, aiming to facilitate daily commutes, enhance intermodality, and offer concrete alternatives to individual car use.
