The transformation project for François Mitterrand Square will enter its concrete phase on October 14, aiming to provide a calmed, attractive space suitable for urban refreshment.
Spanning a total area of 3,300 m², the project prioritizes ecological transition with the de-sealing of 154 m² of surfaces. The square will also feature approximately twenty trees and 832 shrubs and plants to combat heat islands and reduce watering needs. These developments will enhance the space and highlight the terraces of cafes/restaurants, as well as the fountain, which will be relocated to the center.
The initial construction phase, starting October 14, will focus on Ponsard and Joseph Brenier streets. It includes renewing networks, creating planting pits, and burying utility lines, before extending to the square and adjacent streets.
Construction will proceed in stages until summer 2027, with the handover of the redeveloped site scheduled for late July 2027. Updates on progress and access changes will be provided regularly.
The operation's cost is 2.9 million euros. Project management is handled by the City of Vienne, with subsidies from the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Region (400,000 euros), the Department of Isère (995,267 euros, pending), Vienne Condrieu Agglomération (76,000 euros), and the State (Green Fund, 43,623 euros, pending).
