Starting November 2nd, 2026, wheeled collection bins in the Pays Voironnais will be equipped with electronic chips, complemented by trucks with recognition systems and artificial intelligence to better identify sorting errors.

The goal of this initiative is to better understand sorting errors, inform residents more effectively, and improve the overall quality of recycling. The rollout will be conducted commune by commune.
In Charancieu, the chipping operation began on November 2nd. Residents are asked to place their three bins at their collection point for agents to install the chip. A "Bac pucé" (Chipped Bin) sticker will be affixed once the work is done. Everyone's participation is crucial for collectively improving sorting quality. Bins not presented will not be chipped during this visit, requiring a new appointment. This procedure is mandatory but aims solely to enhance sorting quality, with no charges or fines.
In Paladru, the launch is scheduled for November 9th, 2026. Instructions are similar: present the three bins for chipping, marked by a sticker. The new system will collect data on collections for better service monitoring, detecting sorting errors specific to each waste category. This system complements the visual checks already performed by agents.
These new technologies will help identify frequent sorting errors and resident difficulties, enabling better explanation of guidelines, tailored advice, encouragement of good practices, and recognition of correct sorting efforts. The initiative is not intended for control, billing, or penalties, but to gather better information for collective progress in sorting quality.
For broken or damaged bins, they are provided free of charge. Grey bins are the responsibility of residents and are sold at cost price at the Centre Technique du Pays Voironnais in Coublevie. For more information, a toll-free number (0 800 508 892) and a website are available.
Other communes involved by the end of 2026 include Le Pin (mid-November) and Charavines (December).
