The monumental artwork "The Dragon and the Serpent", created by the collective UV LAB, will be officially inaugurated on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, on the MUSE plaza, in the heart of the university campus in Saint-Martin-d'Hères.

The artistic installation, named "The Dragon and the Serpent", will be located on the plaza of the MUSE building. This monumental work is inspired by the two emblematic rivers of the Grenoble region, the Drac and the Isère, traditionally nicknamed the Dragon and the Serpent. Funded by the university as part of the construction of MUSE, the student services center, the sculpture by the Collectif UV LAB also pays tribute to the history of hydroelectricity and "white coal," which significantly contributed to the scientific and university development of Grenoble.
The artwork features a strong participatory dimension. Its form was designed based on responses to a questionnaire completed by over 1,300 people from the university community and beyond. This approach makes the sculpture a true "landark," a collective data artwork. Responses to the questionnaire, covering elements such as age, city or country of birth, gender, color choice, or preference for city or mountains, have shaped the final geometry of the work.
The official inauguration will take place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, between 5:15 PM and 6:00 PM. The artwork is located on the MUSE plaza, at 80, allée Ampère, easily accessible via tram lines B or C at the "Gabriel Fauré - MUSE" stop.
