From September 28 to December 20, 2026, the HY-FEN project, an underground pipeline for renewable hydrogen transport, is subject to a prior consultation open to everyone.

The HY-FEN project, led by the company NaTran (formerly GRT Gaz), aims to create a renewable and low-carbon hydrogen transport infrastructure spanning approximately 820 km. This pipeline will connect Fos-sur-Mer in the south of France to Erching in Moselle, crossing 5 regions and 13 departments.
Decarbonized hydrogen is a key enabler of the energy transition, crucial for industrial decarbonization. The HY-FEN project is intended to be the national backbone for hydrogen transport, integrating into a future European network of over 32,000 km.
The consultation, overseen by four independent guarantors appointed by the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP), invites the public to inform themselves, ask questions, and make suggestions. Local meetings are scheduled, including one in Chamagnieu on November 19 and mobile debates in L’Isle-d’Abeau on November 25, 2026.
Thematic webinars and online events are also offered. The project timeline includes feasibility and engineering studies until 2028, followed by administrative authorizations and an investment decision in 2030. Construction is planned between 2030 and 2032, with commissioning in 2032.
As part of the studies, the Prefect of Isère authorized NaTran in July 2025 to enter private properties in 40 municipalities within the department, including L’Isle d’Abeau, to conduct environmental, soil, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and topographical field investigations.
