The town of Charvieu-Chavagneux is pleased to inaugurate the « Youri and Jean Djorkaeff » playground, in the presence of Youri Djorkaeff, known as « le Snake », a 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship winner with the French national team.
Jean Djorkaeff, former captain of the French team and two-time winner of the Coupe de France in 1964 and 1969, was born in Charvieu. He has previously lent his name to the main field of the Just Fontaine stadium.
The son of a father of Kalmyk origin, Jean Djorkaeff married Marie Ohanian. Together, they raised their three children: Denis, Youri, and Misha.
The municipality views this family as an example of courage, resilience, and successful assimilation, embodying the desire to become fully French. Jean and Youri Djorkaeff are considered role models for the local youth.
The inauguration ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11 AM, at the park on Jules Buchaillat street, with Youri Djorkaeff present. Souvenir photos will be available to the public.
