The municipality of Collonges-sous-Salève is launching a Citizen Participation initiative, a free program aimed at improving security through collaboration between residents, the municipality, and law enforcement.

Citizen Participation is a free, civic, and solidarity-based initiative built on partnership between residents, the municipality (the mayor and municipal police), and the Gendarmerie or National Police. The principle is for residents to maintain a benevolent vigilance in their neighborhood and report any unusual events.
The role of the "Vigilant Neighbor / Referent" is limited to observing unusual behaviors (suspicious vehicle circling, suspicious moving out in neighbors' absence, aggressive soliciting), reporting useful information to law enforcement or a neighborhood referent, and relaying prevention advice. They must never conduct patrols, intervene physically, or substitute for law enforcement.
Benefits for the municipality include a reduction in crime due to the deterrent effect of signage, faster response times from law enforcement with more precise alerts, and strengthened social ties through solidarity and mutual aid.
To register, volunteer residents should contact the town hall after a presentation of the program by the Gendarmerie. "Citizen referents" will be designated per neighborhood to centralize information. In case of immediate emergency, call 17 or 112; for suspicious reports, contact the neighborhood referent.
A public meeting to present the program will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 8 PM in the town hall's event room. Participation is free.
