As part of its commitment to a solidary and accessible city for all, the municipality of Vichy is taking a key step in school inclusion by opening an Elementary Autism Teaching Unit (UEEA) at the Georges-Méchin elementary school. This initiative highlights the local determination to build an educational system tailored to the needs of every child.
This new elementary facility complements the existing preschool program, ensuring continuity in the educational journey for children with autism spectrum disorders (TSA) in Vichy. The aim is to provide a secure and structured environment while promoting their integration into the mainstream school setting.
The UEEA operates with specialized, multidisciplinary support, including a trained teacher, professionals from the medico-social sector, and Assistants for Students with Disabilities (AESH). The pedagogy is personalized to address each student's specific sensory, cognitive, and behavioral needs, thereby facilitating the acquisition of fundamental learning.
Progressive inclusion is fostered through shared times and activities with other school classes, such as breaks and cultural events, to encourage socialization and diversity.
This initiative aligns with the municipality's overarching "Vichy inclusive" strategy. By facilitating the path for children with disabilities and their families, the community reaffirms its dedication to equal opportunities and living together from an early age.
