A recent study revealed that 50% of waste found in public bins is recyclable. Driven by this finding and the requirements of the AGEC law, the Community of Communes is revamping its public collection facilities to enable users to sort waste wherever they are.
These 65 sorting bins will be distributed across the territory's communes, focusing on high-traffic and social areas such as parks, town centers, the pétanque area in Trévoux, and the lakes of Saint-Jean-de-Thurigneux, Ambérieux-en-Dombes, and Ars-sur-Formans. Location choices were made in consultation with local elected officials to best suit local usage patterns.
This rollout addresses two key needs: providing a practical sorting solution for residents and visitors during outdoor activities, and complying with the AGEC law, which mandates separate collection of light packaging for consumers eating away from home. Traditional street bins will be gradually phased out as the new bins become operational.
The total cost of this project, including equipment, communication, and installation, exceeds €200,000. A grant of €107,000 was provided by Citéo, the eco-organization responsible for household packaging recycling.
In Trévoux, outdoor sorting bins have been installed at several locations, including: 7 Rte de Reyrieux, Boulevard Poyat, 720 chemin des Corbettes, 210-252 Chem. D’Arras, 1 Allée des Cascades, Chemin de Halage, 14 Bd de l’industrie, 2 Bd des Combattants, and 2 place de la Terrasse.
