Following the 2026 drought in the Ain department, the Departmental Directorate of Public Finances is proposing a collective procedure to municipalities for property tax relief on undeveloped land.

The Departmental Directorate of Public Finances of Ain is informing municipalities about the possibilities for property tax relief following the 2026 drought. This measure, provided for by Article 1398 of the General Tax Code, concerns crop losses due to extraordinary climatic events.
To simplify procedures, the Directorate is proposing a collective claim for agricultural plots classified as 'Terres' (Land) and 'Prés' (Meadows). Crop losses will be assessed through expert evaluations involving the Departmental Directorate of Territories and agricultural representatives.
For cultivated plots, the relief must be passed on to the farmer, in accordance with Article L. 411-24 of the Rural Code. Farmers and landowners can contact the Mairie de Châtillon-la-Palud for further information.
The original notice, dated September 29, 2026, set October 9, 2026, as the deadline for the municipality to object to this collective procedure.
