For several years, the Bourg-en-Bresse Hospital Centre (CHB) has actively participated in World Breastfeeding Week (WBW). This year, CHB professionals are inviting expectant and new parents on Thursday, October 15, 2026, for experience sharing and resource meetings to promote the most suitable breastfeeding for each situation.
At the CHB's Mother and Child Unit, several events are planned. From 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, Breastfeeding Meetings will offer a time for exchange and advice with trained professionals and other mothers. These meetings, usually held bi-weekly, are exceptionally added for WBW. Starting at 9:30 AM, information stands titled 'Breastfeeding Journey, Breastfeed with Peace of Mind!' will be led by CHB professionals, with the presence of nurses, pediatric nurses, and midwives from the Departmental Maternal and Child Protection (PMI), a departmental public service dedicated to protecting and advising pregnant women and children from birth to 6 years old, as well as trainers from the midwifery school.
Four key stages will mark the breastfeeding journey: before birth, the first days after birth, the following months, and later. Parents can discuss these stages with professionals at the stands. Awareness on everyday products and their environmental impact will also be offered, led by nurses and midwives trained within the Pregnant Women Environment and Health (FEES) project. The Auvergne Rhône Alpes Region Lactarium will be present to provide information on milk donation.
CH Bourg-en-Bresse professionals will also participate in PMI action days: on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM at the Pierre Goujon Departmental Solidarity Centre in Bourg-en-Bresse, and on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at L'Ecrin in Etrez.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding up to 6 months, then continuing up to 2 years or more, alongside complementary feeding. Breast milk is essential for babies' development and health, providing nourishment, hydration, immunological protection, and comfort.
CHB supports parents in their birth project, respecting and assisting their choice regarding breastfeeding. The teams, recognized by the High Authority of Health, offer personalized support, including post-hospitalization care, in collaboration with the Mother and Child Unit psychologists and the PMI service.
The CHB Mother and Child Unit provides comprehensive care, including gynecology, obstetrics-maternity, neonatology, and pediatrics. In 2025, 1,770 births took place at CHB.
