Since September 19, Lyon has been hosting 67 Ukrainian children every Saturday at the Joannes Masset municipal school for Ukrainian language and culture classes.

The Ukrainian school has officially opened its doors in Lyon, welcoming 67 Ukrainian children every Saturday since September 19. Classes are held at the Joannes Masset municipal school, located in the city's 9th arrondissement.
This initiative is the result of cooperation between the City of Lyon and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lyon. It is part of the city's mobilization in favor of Ukraine, which recently joined the campaign “Together, let's save the Ukrainian hostages,” sponsoring two detained Ukrainian civilians.
Lyon's solidarity with Ukraine is also demonstrated through regular exchanges with Ukrainian representatives, such as the recent welcome of a delegation from Lviv at the town hall, and various symbolic initiatives.
The main objective of this school is to enable Ukrainian children living in France to maintain and develop their knowledge of Ukrainian language, culture, history, and heritage, in addition to their regular French schooling. Classes, held every Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM, cover literature, history, geography, music, as well as Ukrainian traditions and festivals.
The provision of municipal premises by the City of Lyon offers a concrete framework for Ukrainian families, allowing them to maintain a living connection with their culture of origin.
