The Prefect of Rhône has strengthened safety rules for users of electric scooters and other motorized personal mobility devices (EPMMDs) through a new decree.

The wearing of an attached helmet and a high-visibility vest or retro-reflective equipment is now mandatory, day and night, on all roads open to public traffic, including cycle paths. This measure applies to electric scooters, gyropods, monowheels, and hoverboards.
In addition to these new obligations, the regulations recall several essential points: a minimum age of 14 years to operate an EPMMD, a maximum speed of 25 km/h, and the prohibition of speed derestriction.
Failure to wear a helmet is punishable by a fine of €135. The absence of a high-visibility vest or retro-reflective equipment is punishable by a fine of €35. It is advisable to equip yourself before setting off to ride safely.
