Built in 2000, the gymnasium has undergone significant renovations. The goal was to optimize reception conditions for schoolchildren and the numerous sports associations that use it annually. These improvements reinforce its central role for sports in the Combrailles, Sioule et Morge territory.
The inauguration featured several highlights. Over 70 children from leisure centers participated in sports initiations, while the professional team of Handball Club Cournon d’Auvergne (HCCA) held a training session in front of about fifty spectators. An official ceremony then gathered around 80 people.
With this operation, the community of communes continues its commitment to sports facilities adapted to the needs of its inhabitants, while improving the energy performance of its heritage.
The ceremony was attended by several elected officials and representatives, including Sébastien Guillot, President of Combrailles, Sioule et Morge, Renaud Marret, Vice-President in charge of sports, Pierre Riol, Delegate Councilor for Sports at the Department of Puy-de-Dôme, Grégory Bonnet, Vice-President of Territoire d’Énergie 63, Michaël Baré, substitute for deputy Christine Pirès-Beaune, José Da Silva, Mayor of Manzat, and Charlotte Dumas, architect at the Panthéons architecture firm.
The work included renovating changing rooms and showers, creating new storage and social spaces, and improving building accessibility. The heating system was replaced with a heat pump, and insulation and roof waterproofing were renovated, promising an energy saving of approximately 30%.
The construction project, which began in March 2025, was carried out without interrupting access to the gymnasium for schools and sports associations. The total investment amounts to €1,065,636 excluding tax, with support from the Department of Puy-de-Dôme (€411,589 HT) and the State (€192,830 HT).
