The Beaumont town hall officially inaugurated the 7th Children's Municipal Council cohort on October 7th, consisting of 24 young elected officials from the commune's primary schools.
The town of Beaumont celebrated the installation of its new Children's Municipal Council (CME) promotion on October 7th. This event marks the start of the term for 24 young citizens, in CM1 and CM2 grades, elected to represent their peers. This initiative, now in its seventh year, aims to introduce youth to public life and civic engagement.
Elections held in late September within the commune's school groups led to the selection of these young representatives, ensuring parity between the two educational establishments. Louisa Rougier, a CM2 student at Joséphine Baker school, was elected Junior Mayor. Hugo Capitain, also a CM2 student at Jean Zay school, was appointed First Deputy.
During the installation ceremony in the Town Hall's Assembly Room, the new members were welcomed by Mayor Jean-François Viguès, along with Christine Lechevallier, Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning and Memory Policy, and Tilio Thomas, Councilor Delegate for Civic Life and Youth, who oversees the CME. Following a welcome speech and the presentation of the tricolor sashes, the children discussed their campaign platforms and project ideas for the municipality.
“
"It is important to educate the younger generation about the functioning of a local authority, as well as the values of dialogue, respect for others, and commitment."
The Mayor emphasized the significance of this educational program in fostering civic participation from an early age. The young councilors will have the opportunity to propose and advocate for concrete projects within the municipality's purview.
“
"Civic engagement, combating abstention, and interest in public life develop from a young age, by encouraging children to participate, make proposals, and act for their town."
The morning concluded with a photo session, a tour of the town hall offices, and a friendly reception with small gifts. The next CME meeting is scheduled for November 18th, with youth animator Ninon Malet. The young councilors will meet monthly until June 2027.
