Due to overflowing textile collection bins and provider difficulties, the Ambert Livradois Forez community of communes adapted its organization starting Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

For several weeks, some textile collection points in the Ambert Livradois Forez territory have been overflowing. This situation is part of a crisis affecting the entire textile sector. Faced with the difficulties encountered by its provider, Emmaüs, the community of communes has decided to temporarily adapt its organization to ensure textile collection. This transition period aims to prepare for the implementation of a more sustainable new system.
The partnership with Emmaüs ended by mutual agreement, as the provider could no longer manage the continuous flow of clothing. Starting this Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the waste service agents of Ambert Livradois Forez will be responsible for emptying the collection bins, with collection frequencies maintained to prevent overflows.
During this transition period, the contents of the bins will be sent to Clermont-Ferrand for incineration. A new partnership is being studied to prioritize sorting, resale, and recycling of clothing. Residents are encouraged to continue sorting and depositing clothes, household linen, leather goods, and pairs of shoes in closed bags into the bins. It is also advisable to favor donations to local associations for clothing in good condition.
This regrettable situation is a transitional step towards a more sustainable solution focused on reuse and recycling, unlike many other communities that have had to resort to incinerating their textiles permanently.
