The municipality of Saint-Héand, in partnership with the National Forestry Office (ONF), is launching a maintenance and forest management plan for the dam's wooded area, a 5000m² space cherished by residents.

This work is part of a long-term management strategy for this emblematic wooded area, which is integral to Saint-Héand's identity and supports the commune's bid for the "Village Sport Nature" label.
Given the age of the trees, estimated at around a hundred years and largely composed of conifers like Douglas fir, the municipality has decided to implement this management plan. A diagnosis was carried out on 114 trees, assessing their risk, health status, and recommending interventions.
This diagnosis identified two categories of trees: those in good condition posing no particular risk, and those potentially dangerous due to their proximity to infrastructure and poor health, requiring urgent intervention.
The first phase of intervention will begin on October 15, 2026, involving the pruning of dead branches and the felling of trees identified as dangerous. A second phase will focus on planting new species adapted to climate change.
The objectives of this initiative include promoting the gradual "rejuvenation" and renewal of tree stands, improving the quality and diversity of the stands, preserving biodiversity and natural habitats, ensuring user safety, and guaranteeing sustainable management for future generations.
During the intervention period, certain areas may be temporarily regulated or closed for safety reasons. Compliance with signage is essential.
