Loire Forez Agglomération is inaugurating a new 3.3 km greenway connecting Montbrison to Saint-Romain-le-Puy, providing a safe route for pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized users.

The Loire Forez Agglomération territory is seeing continued development in soft mobility with the upcoming opening of a greenway. This 3.3 km route will cross the municipalities of Saint-Thomas-la-Garde and Saint-Georges-Haute-Ville, creating a new safe axis for daily travel.
The greenway will be accessible from the crossroads of Chemin de Grumard and Rue du Cerizet in Montbrison, and from the bridge overlooking the SNCF railway line in Saint-Romain-le-Puy. This project transformed a road closed for works between late 2025 and early 2026 into a space dedicated to active mobility.
In accordance with greenway regulations, this development will be reserved for non-motorized traffic: pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, roller skaters, skateboarders, as well as electric-assist bicycles and motorized personal transport devices (e.g., electric scooters, unicycles, gyropods…) with a speed limit below 25 km/h. By exception, certain motorized vehicles may use the greenway, such as emergency services, law enforcement, technical services, and concerned local residents and agricultural operators. The speed for these vehicles will be limited to 30 km/h.
The ongoing finalization works include the renovation of part of the surface and the installation of specific signage. Photoluminescent markings will improve nighttime visibility by reflecting light stored during the day after dark.
The investment for this development amounts to nearly €35,000 HT, with approximately 25% financed by the 2025 Green Fund.
The new greenway is scheduled to open in late October or early November 2026. This project is part of the deployment of the agglomeration's cycling master plan, adopted in April 2022, which plans for the development of several cycling routes by 2032.
