At the call of the City, this gathering was part of the tribute movement that has swept through many French municipalities over the past week. Surrounded by her elected officials and Guillaume Lissy, president of the Métropole, Mayor Amandine Demore took the floor.
She first wished to express the solidarity and support of the entire city to the families of the victims and their loved ones. "The City of Échirolles sends its sincerest thoughts to the families of the innocent victims and their loved ones. It offers them all its support and compassion in this particularly painful ordeal," she recalled. "What happened last Friday, in the streets of Trappes and La Verrière, concerns us all."
The mayor also denounced with the utmost firmness this particularly serious act, whose racist nature is deeply revolting: "Nothing could justify such acts." She also emphasized that respect for human life, the safety of individuals, and the absolute rejection of all forms of violence are fundamental and inalienable values. "Racism is a poison for our entire society, and today, it is capable of killing. We must never forget that," she insisted.
Échirolles thus reaffirmed its commitment to non-violence, solidarity, and living together, as well as to the values of respect, equality, and fraternity.
The gathering concluded with a minute of silence, followed by applause.
