The Department of Cantal has launched the 'Coeur de bourg' initiative, offering financial aid of up to €10,000 per dwelling to encourage the renovation of the territory's over 10,000 vacant homes.

To promote the arrival of new populations and enhance the attractiveness of Cantal, the Departmental Council introduced the 'Coeur de bourg' program last June. With a budget of 1 million euros, this initiative aims to facilitate the creation of 100 new rental units through the renovation of vacant properties.
This departmental aid, which can reach up to €10,000 per renovated dwelling, complements support from the ANAH and local authorities. To be eligible, the property must undergo renovation supported by the ANAH (under 'Loc’Avantages avec travaux' or 'MaPrimeRénov’ Rénovation d’ampleur'), have been vacant for at least two years prior to the application date to ANAH, receive complementary support of at least €1,000 from the municipality or intercommunal body, and be rented as a primary residence for at least six years post-renovation.
The aid is capped at a maximum of €10,000 per dwelling, within the limit of 80% of total public aid. A single owner can apply for aid for up to 8 properties across the entire program and a maximum of 4 properties per building.
This initiative provides a concrete response to the need to revitalize town centers by simultaneously addressing: increasing rental supply, facilitating the integration of new residents, strengthening the attractiveness of town centers, combating housing vacancy, and supporting local economic activity, particularly within the construction sector.
Application dossiers can be submitted online starting from October 1, 2026. For further information, please contact the Espace Conseil France Rénov’ at the Hôtel du Département at 04 71 46 48 90 or via email at renovenergie@cantal.fr.
