A study of the contents of public bins in the area revealed a significant finding: approximately 50% of the waste collected is recyclable. Based on this observation and in accordance with the AGEC law (law against waste and for a circular economy), the Community of Communes decided to rethink its public waste collection facilities to enable users to sort their waste wherever they are.
These 65 bins will be distributed across the various municipalities in the territory, prioritizing high-traffic and social areas such as parks, town centers, and gathering spots. Locations like the pétanque area in Trévoux, the lake in Saint-Jean-de-Thurigneux, Ambérieux-en-Dombes, and Ars-sur-Formans have been selected. The final choice for each location was made in consultation with local elected officials to best suit local usage patterns.
This deployment addresses a dual objective: providing a concrete sorting solution for residents and visitors, and complying with the AGEC law, which mandates separate collection of light packaging for consumers eating outside their homes. Gradually, some traditional street bins will be removed as the new bins become operational.
The total cost of this project, including the supply of equipment, communication, and implementation, amounts to over €200,000. A grant of €107,000 was provided by Citéo, the eco-organization responsible for household packaging recycling, thus financially supporting this environmental initiative.
